Why there is no cookie banner
A banner exists to ask permission for tracking. GradeGenie does not track you, so there is nothing to ask about.
There are no analytics, no advertising or marketing cookies, no tracking pixels, and no third-party embeds: no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recording, no A/B testing tool, nothing that watches what you do and reports it elsewhere. Nothing on this site profiles you or follows you to other websites, and nothing about you is sold or shared for advertising.
What is left is the login session and your own settings. Those are either strictly necessary to run the service or are the thing you asked for by using it, which is why they do not need consent, but they are all listed below anyway, so you can see exactly what is there.
Cookies we set
One kind, and only once you log in. Your sign-in is handled by Supabase, our authentication provider, which sets a session cookie so that each page you open knows you are still logged in. Without it you would be asked to sign in again on every click.
- Session cookies (names beginning
sb-): keep you logged in and protect the sign-in process. Strictly necessary. They are cleared when you log out.
Signed-out visitors reading the home page or these policies are not given any cookie at all.
What is stored in your browser
Most of GradeGenie is kept in your browser’s local storage rather than in cookies. This never leaves your device on its own, is not sent to us automatically the way a cookie is, and is not readable by any other website.
- Your settings: light or dark theme, which subjects you picked, whether the sidebar is open, and whether you have been through the welcome screens.
- Your work: practice papers, marked answers, saved questions, flashcard decks, cheat sheets, your planner and any exam dates you entered.
Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it. Anything also saved to your account stays in your account; anything held only in the browser is gone for good, so treat clearing site data as deleting that work.
Fonts and other files
The Fredoka and Nunito typefaces are served from GradeGenie’s own domain rather than from Google Fonts, so loading a page does not tell Google that you visited. Nothing else is fetched from a third party while you browse.
Controlling what is stored
You can clear or block this in your browser settings at any time, and you can log out to drop the session cookie. Blocking the session cookie will stop you being able to log in (that is the cookie that makes logging in work), but everything on the public pages will still be readable.
Changes
If GradeGenie ever adds analytics or anything else that is not strictly necessary, this page will be updated first and you will be asked before it is switched on. That is a commitment, not a formality.
